NTSE Notification 2020:  NCERT released National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) for students studying Class X. The main aim of this exam is to identify nurture talent. This examination is being conducted every year at two levels: Stage-1 (State Level) and Stage-2 (National Level). Interested candidates have to check for state level notification in respective websites and apply online according to the dates given by their states. Candidates passed in state level are eligible for Stage-2 (National Level) exam. Therefore we inform all the candidates to keep checking their NTSE state website and apply for this test. The state level notification will also given in this page below.

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)

NTSE Eligibility

  • Students studying Class 10th in any recognized schools are eligible to appear for this State Level (Stage-I) exam in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction.
  • Students under Open Distance Learning are also eligible.
  • Candidates age should be below 18 years as on 01st July.
  • The student is not employed and he/she is appearing the 10th Class for the first time.

State Wise Registration Fee

  • The registration fee may vary from state to state. The fee will be notified by the State and Union Territories for Stage-I examination.
  • Before submitting the application form, candidate may find out the fee charged for Stage-I exam and also the mode of payment from the respective State Liaison Officers (LOs).
  • There is No fee for Stage-II (National Level) Examination which is conducted by NCERT.

NTSE Application Form

  1. For application form candidates may contact the State / UT Liaison Officer for the procuring application form.
  2. The filled application form should be signed by the School Principal before the last date of submission.
  3. The candidates may confirm from the Liaison Officer of respective state, the address at which the completed forms are to be submitted.
  4. The address and contact information are available at state wise in NCERT official website at www.ncert.nic.in.

NTSE Stage-1 & Stage-2 Question Paper Pattern

The pattern of State Level (Stage-I) and National Level (Stage-II) exam is as follows. The 2 stage exam at the State/UT level will comprise of two papers.

  • Candidates are advised to keep checking of updates on NCERT website for any changes.
  • Note: There is no Negative Marking in Stage – II Examination

NTSE Stage-1 & Stage-2 Syllabus

I Level Exam

  • MAT: The syllabi will comprise all fundamental lessons of verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
  • SAT: The syllabus for Mathematics, Science and Social Science will be broadly based on the prescribed respective State Board Syllabus from Std 10 (or in exceptions, Std 9) textbooks only.

II Level Exam

  • MAT: The syllabi will comprise all fundamental lessons of verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
  • SAT: The Mathematics and Science questions will be asked from the chapters in the syllabus of class 9th and 10th (advanced level). Social Studies is completely based on the NCERT book for CBSE students for Class 9th and 10th.

Selection Process:

  • NTSE Stage- I conducted by the State / UT (usually in November) – FOR CLASS X STUDENTS
  • NTSE Stage-II conducted at the National Level (usually in May) – FOR Stage-I Qualified Students only.

Identification of talent comprises a two-stage selection process. Stage-1 Selection of students will be done by States/UTs and those who are selected/recommended from Stage-1 examination, will be eligible to appear Stage-II Examination, conducted by NCERT.

NTSE Qualifying Marks:

  • For candidates from SC/ST/PH category: 32% in each paper
  • For Candidates from General/OBC & EWS) category: 40% in each paper

Scholarships for Selected Candidates:

About 2000 scholarships are awarded for different stages of education as follows

  1. Scholarship of ₹ 1250/- per month for Class-XI to XII
  2. Scholarship of ₹ 2000/- per month for Undergraduate and Post Graduates.
  3. Amount of Scholarship for Ph.D is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms

Indian Students studying Abroad

Such students studying Class X can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure available at official website www.ncert.nic.in. Candidates may fill up the Application Form, available on the NCERT website and send to the undersigned along with a photocopy of the marks sheet of previous examination. Announcement for students of Indian nationality studying abroad will be announced separately.
